David Chu (Ph.D. University of Colorado СÀ¶ÊÓƵ 2025) studies Greek literature, particularly Greek tragedy and the works of Euripides. His current focus is on the intersection of Greek tragedy, gender, and music, and the way in which Greek literature and music reflect cultural ideals and identities. He is currently at work on a book project which examines the role and function of male lament by Greek heroes in tragedy as well as a series of articles exploring how musical notation in Greek papyri corroborates the viewpoints of ancient authors on the use of musical modes.

Outside of tragedy, Prof. Chu’s teaching interests include Greek and Roman epic, ancient languages, and writing and rhetoric.Ìý
