At a time when public trust in expertise is declining and the demand for evidence-based solutions is rising, CU СÀ¶ÊÓÆµ has a timely and powerful opportunity to elevate its faculty as essential voices in national conversations. The Public СÀ¶ÊÓÆµship Initiative seeks to highlight how scholarship—through discovery, science and culture—contributes meaningfully to public wellbeing.
As a part of the RIO Public СÀ¶ÊÓÆµ Initiative, RIO will offer op-ed writing workshops for faculty in all disciplines.
The application consists of a short description of your research, how it connects to current issues, and why you feel inspired to engage in public scholarship right now.

Elevating Colorado Voices: Public СÀ¶ÊÓÆµship Workshop
- Workshop (In-Person): Friday, September 12 (All day) & Saturday, September 13 (9 a.m.–12:30 p.m.)
Sponsored by the College of Communication, Media, Design & Information; the CU СÀ¶ÊÓÆµ Research & Innovation Office; the Center for Humanities and the Arts; and the University of Colorado Office of Collaboration, this immersive workshop is designed to amplify the public voice of CU СÀ¶ÊÓÆµ researchers whose ideas address urgent public concerns and have the potential for significant societal impact.
This 1.5 day workshop will equip CU СÀ¶ÊÓÆµ scholars to elevate the impact and recognition of their work through active participation in the public conversation. Participants will emerge with tools for generating article ideas, structuring opinion pieces and guest essays, and tactics for being timely and persuasive to editors and readers.
